Samuel Augustus Nunn Jr. (born September 8, 1938) is an American politician who served as a United States Senator from Georgia (1972-1997) as a member of the Democratic Party. After leaving Congress, Nunn co-founded the Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI), a charitable organization working to prevent catastrophic attacks with nuclear, biological, and chemical weapons, for which he is a co-chair.

Bio. Former U.S. Senator Sam Nunn founded NTI with philanthropist Ted Turner and is co-chair of NTI. He served as chief executive officer of NTI for 16 years, until June 2017, and continues as strategic advisor, bringing his deep experience and expertise to NTI projects. He served as a U.S. Senator from Georgia for 24 years, from 1972 to 1996.
