Sudden unintended acceleration

What is Sudden Unintended Acceleration? Sudden unintended acceleration is a form of auto defect. It is a fault with the design or manufacturing of the vehicle that can cause it to accelerate without warning, and without input from the driver. It goes without saying that this can put drivers and passengers in extreme danger.

Sudden unintended acceleration (SUA) is the unintended, unexpected, uncontrolled acceleration of a vehicle, often accompanied by an apparent loss of braking effectiveness. Such problems may be caused by driver error (e.g., pedal misapplication), mechanical or electrical problems, or some combination of these factors.

Sudden unintended acceleration occurs when an electronic malfunction within the vehicle causes the throttle to expand and the car to accelerate without the driver pressing down on the gas pedal. If a vehicle has a defect in its electronic system, the mechanism that controls the car's power train could malfunction.

Sudden unintended acceleration is the most deadly defect in the history of automation. It happens when the car's electronics cause the throttle to expand wide open. It makes it difficult for the driver to return the car to idle if it remains in gear.

Sudden Unintended Acceleration: A Dangerous Risk Sudden unintended acceleration (SUA) occurs when a vehicle suddenly begins to accelerate in speed without a driver's control. SUA happens when an electronic malfunction occurs inside of the vehicle, causing the throttle to expand and the vehicle to accelerate without the driver's intervention.

Sudden unintended acceleration occurs when a vehicle accelerates without prompting from the driver. Some drivers who reported these incidents noted losing the ability to brake.

Sudden Unintended Acceleration can be rooted in a variety of vehicle defects including ergonomic design flaws, mechanical or electro-mechanical failures, or electronic failures. Sudden acceleration is caused by a malfunction in the electronics that control a vehicle's powertrain. Since the introduction of electronics into throttle control mechanisms, cases of sudden acceleration have risen dramatically. Advancements in technology have made cars safer, but vehicle electronics increase in complexity every year.

According to an earlier report [ 1 ], a sudden acceleration incident is defined as unintended acceleration accompanied by an apparent loss of braking effectiveness. Most unintended accelerations are known to happen mainly due to driver error where the acceleration pedal is pushed instead of the brake pedal [,,, ].
