The Royal African Company was an English trading company established in 1660 to trade along the West African coast for gold, silver and slaves. It was granted a monopoly by the Duke of York and faced competition from the Dutch and other rivals. It became insolvent in 1752 and was replaced by the African Company of Merchants.
