Nylon 6

Nylon 6 or polycaprolactam is a polymer developed by Paul Schlack at IG Farben to reproduce the properties of nylon 6,6 without violating the patent on its production. (Around the same time, Kohei Hoshino at Toray also succeeded in synthesizing nylon 6.) It is a semicrystalline polyamide.

Nylon 6 fiber is produced in two general product types: the regular type for textile uses and the high-strength type for industrial uses. Most nylon 6 is produced in the form of filament yarns and staple fiber yarns for the manufacture of carpets, tire cords, apparel, hosiery, upholstery, seat belts, parachutes, ropes, and industrial cords.

This cast nylon 6 material is easier to machine than other types of nylon. It's comparable to Nylatron and Nycast.

Nylon 6 is a tough, abrasion-resistant material. It has improved surface appearance and processability compared to nylon 6/6. It also can be molded about 80 degrees F (27 degrees C) lower with less mold shrinkage because it is slightly less crystalline. Adversely, nylon 6 has a lower modulus and absorbs moisture more rapidly than nylon 6/6.

Nylon 6 is a cast material that has improved low-temp impact resistance and better long term heat resistance than extruded Nylon 6/6. Nylon 6 has the highest rate of absorption of all of the PA formulations but is easily modified through the addition of certain additives like glass fiber and ofther compounds. Cast Type 6

Also known as nylon 6/6, this general purpose material is often used for bearings, gears, valve seats, and other high-wear parts. Wear-Resistant Nylon Rods and Discs Also known as nylon 6/6, this general purpose material is often used for bearings, gears, valve seats, and other high-wear parts.

Nylon 6/6 is the extrusion grade of the Nylon family of solid polymer shapes. It has been commercially available since 1948; developed by Dupont. Nylon is well known for excellent toughness, low coefficient of friction and good abrasion resistance making it an ideal replacement for a wide variety of materials from metal to rubber.

NYLON 6/6 is a 30% glass-fiber-reinforced nylon 6/6 material whose important properties include high tensile and flexural strength, stiffness, excellent heat deflection temperature, and superior abrasion and wear resistance.

Nylon 6 is made from one monomer which has 6 carbon atoms whilst Nylon 66 is made from 2 monomers with each one having 6 carbon atoms, hence the Nylon 66 name. An important difference between Nylon 6 & 66 is mold shrinkage.

Nylon 66 (loosely written nylon 6-6, nylon 6/6 or nylon 6,6) is a type of polyamide or nylon. It, and nylon 6, are the two most common for textile and plastic industries.Nylon 66 is made of two monomers each containing 6 carbon atoms, hexamethylenediamine and adipic acid, which give nylon 66 its name. Synthesis and manufacturing

Nylon 6/6 is one of the most versatile engineering thermoplastics. It is popular in every major market using thermoplastic materials. Because of its excellent balance of strength, ductility and heat resistance, nylon 6/6 is an outstanding candidate for metal replacement applications.

Chemically speaking, Nylon 6 is one monomer with 6 carbon atoms. Nylon 6.6 is made from 2 monomers with 6 carbon atoms each, which results in the designation of 6.6. Both can withstand high heat and are generally tough materials with good wear resistance. However, when you take a closer look, their individual characteristics become more clear.

DuPont ™ Zytel ® is a portfolio of nylon resin materials proven in a wide range of applications. Zytel ® products deliver high-performance benefits ranging from stiffness to heat resistance.. Nylon 6 is a semi-crystalline polyamide (PA) with high mechanical strength, stiffness, hardness and toughness. In addition to this, it also has excellent wear resistance as well as good fatigue resistance, sliding properties and machinability.

Nylon 6 Polyamide (PA, commonly known as nylon) was the first resin developed for fiber by DuPont, which was industrialized in 1939. Nylon is mainly used in synthetic fiber. Its most prominent advantage is that its wear resistance is higher than all other fibers, 10 times higher than cotton and 20 times higher than wool.

Nylon 6 and Nylon 6/6 are used interchangeably in a number of applications, but they do have slightly different characteristics that can be critical in some applications. Nylon Type 6/6 Extruded: More crystalline than Nylon 6. Has a higher melting point and higher heat deflection temperature than Nylon 6.

The strongest of all aliphatic nylons, Nylon 6/6 offers good abrasion resistance compared to Nylon 6. The addition of fillers such as glass fiber can improve stiffness and enhance fatigue resistance. Nylon 6/6 improved low temperature toughness translates into more robust performance in cold environments than Acetal, PBT or Nylon 6.

Nylon type 6/6 is usually produced by melting solid pellets of the polymer and processing them through a thermoplastic extruder. Extrusion is a fast and economical method for making small diameter tube and rod. Nylon's high heat deflection temperature, vibration resistance, and machinability make it the perfect material for many applications.

Nylon 6 is a foundational material on which Nylon 6/6 and Nylon MDS are based. Each is perfect for its own application and an outstanding substitute for metal. Nylon 6. Nylon 6 is resistant to abrasion and has high tensile and impact strength, machinability, and elasticity. Its absorption capacity actually increases the more moisture it absorbs.

Nylon 6/6 is one of the most versatile engineering thermoplastics. It is popular in every major market using thermoplastic materials. Because of its excellent balance of strength, ductility and heat resistance, nylon 6/6 is an outstanding candidate for metal replacement applications. Nylon 6/6 is very easy to process with a very wide process time.

Nylon 6/12 (PA 6/12) Nylon's toughness, low coefficient of friction and good abrasion resistance make it an ideal replacement for a wide variety of materials from metal to rubber. It weighs only 1/7 as much as bronze.

Nylon 6 (PA6) PA6 occupies a prominent place in the engineering thermoplastics family. Shakespeare® PA6 resins are plasticized, which enhances the processability of the polymer while being specifically suited for applications requiring excellent abrasion resistance, surface appearance, pigmentability, tensile strength and elongation properties.

The resulting nylon gets a name based on the number of carbon atoms that separate two amines and two acidic groups. Hence, nylon 6,6 is widely used as fibres made from adipic acid and hexamethylenediamine. The salt which is formed by two compounds is known as nylon that has an exact ratio of 1:1 acid to base.

Nylon 6 (polyamide 6 or PA6) is a semitransparent polymer, which has excellent thermoplasticity and good chemical resistance and durability after modification. It is widely used in the manufacture of bearings, automobiles and tractors for various oil pipeline machinery and industrial equipment, such as zero fog material.

Nylon 6/10 and 6/12 are available in various grades, including unreinforced, reinforced with glass fibers or mineral fillers, as well as impact modified or plasticized grades. They are used in many industries and for a wide range of applications, including zip fasteners, gears, cams, electrical insulators, precision parts, cable jackets, and ...

Nylon 6 fibres offer outstanding abrasive resistance, meaning they are longer lasting in these applications than other fibres. Known as 'contract business' in the industry, needlefelt carpets with Nylon 6 fibres are used for example in airports, office buildings, exhibition halls, ski arenas and mountain refuges.
