Mola (art form)


The Mola, or Molas, is a hand-made textile that forms part of the traditional women's clothing of the indigenous Guna people from Panamá, Central America, and Colombia, South America.

Slowly this innovation intensified into increasingly more complex and refined designs that we know today as the unique Kuna mola, an art form with a vast vocabulary of cultural expression. Traditional molas are assembled using the technique of reverse appliqué.
