ARBO is a 501 (c)3 corporation that represents the national and international regulatory arm of the optometric profession. It serves the member boards that license and regulate optometrists and protect the public's health and welfare.

The Exam plays an important role for our state and provincial board members. It is an essential tool that allows ARBO member boards to judge entry-to-practice competency for licensure. But more than a tool, the Exam is a living entity that must constantly change and update itself in order to adapt to the ever-shifting optometric environment.

COPE is the only nationally recognized accreditation system for optometric continuing education (CE) developed by ARBO to assure quality and relevance of optometric CE courses for license renewal. COPE addresses professional practice gaps, improves knowledge, performance, and patient outcomes, and is equivalent to medicine's CME.

Joint Accreditation is a collaborative program that allows organizations to be accredited to provide interprofessional continuing education (IPCE) for medical, nursing, pharmacy, optometry, and PA professions. It is equivalent to ACCME standards and benefits from the experience of ARBO's member boards. Learn more about the history, standards, and benefits of Joint Accreditation.
