Daniel Pabst


Daniel Pabst (June 11, 1826 - July 15, 1910) was a German-born American cabinetmaker of the Victorian Era. He is credited with some of the most extraordinary custom interiors and hand-crafted furniture in the United States.

Daniel Pabst (1826-1910) was among the foremost Philadelphia cabinetmakers active in the city in the second half of the nineteenth century, "whose excellent craftsmanship and admired sense of design created a steady demand for his work."'

Trained in Germany as a cabinetmaker, Daniel Pabst arrived in Philadelphia in 1849. There, he earned a reputation for carved Renaissance Revival furniture, characterized by classical motifs such as columns, capitals, and carved animal heads.

Beginning in the 1830s, a new influx of Germans included many skilled cabinetmakers; by 1850, more than one-third of Philadelphia's cabinetmakers were German-born.
